Khi chúng tôi hỏi thêm thì ông giải thích rằng chưa có giám mục nào lên tiếng phản đối cả.”
Chúng tôi đã gọi điện thoại và liên lạc với văn phòng của Dân biểu Ed Royve tại Washington DC để xin xác nhận những lời trên đây có phải la nguyên văn của ông Triết đã nói theo như dân biểu Royce tường trình hay không? Hay ít là phản ảnh chính những gì ông Ed Royce đã nói bằng tiếng Anh về cuộc hội kiên1 này. Tuy nhiên, chúng tôi chưa có câu trả lời rõ ràng về sự xác nhận của người đại diện dân biểu Ed Royce ở Washington DC, đang khi đó Văn phòng của dân biểu Ed Royce gửi cho chúng tôi một lá thư và lời nhận định của dân biểu nay được đăng trong phần sau đây.
Cũng trong ngày hôm nay, chúng tôi lại cố gắng liên lạc với Cô Giang Kim là người phụ trách văn phòng dân biểu Royce ở Fullerton. Trong 2 lần điện đàm, Cô Giang Kim cho biết có đọc bài báo, nhưng chưa thể xác nhận "chính văn những gì mà ông Ed Royce đã nói". Cô cần liên lạc với dân biểu Royce để trả lời về sự việc nêu trên. I would like to have a full text of the Congressman Ed Royce Press Conference yesterday (June 21, 2007) regarding his meeting with the President Nguyen Minh Triet. In case you do not have the text of his conference, please verify the truthfulness of his statements as reported by Nguoi Viet online.
This morning I called the Congressman Ed Royce's Office to inquire about the statements of the Congressman at the Press conference hold on Thursday June 21, 2007 in Washington DC, and they referred me to you as the person in charge of Press.
According to a report from Nguoi Viet daily News (Orange County) published on its Website on June 21, 2007, it said that: "The Congressman Ed Royce revealed the the explanation of President Triet in regard to Father Ly's case 'He said that the governement action (of Vietnam ) had the support of Catholic Church in Vietnam. When we asked for further clarification about this, and he explained that there is none of Vietnamese Bishops voices their protest about this'".
I take this occasion to express my sincere appreciation for all that the Congressman Ed Royce have done for Vietnamese people especially in regards to the freedom of religion in Vietnam

Reverend John Nghi Tran:
Mr. Royce protested Fr Ly's case directly to the President of Vietnam. He also raised the fate of 19 other dissedents held in Vietnamese prisons for practicing freedom of religion. Mr Royce went so far as to display a picture of Fr Ly's show trial at his media conference.
Unfortunately we do not have a transcript. However I have attached a copy of his media release and a copy fo the letter Mr Royce handed to the President in his meeting yesterday.

Royce Presses Vietnamese President on
Human Rights Crisis in Vietnam
Congressman Ed Royce, Lead Republican on the Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Terrorism, Nonproliferation and Trade issued the following statement after a meeting with Vietnamese President Nguyen.
I am appalled by the events in Vietnam. Hanoi has intensified its brutal oppression of religious freedom, political dissent and other basic human rights.
In the past three months, Vietnamese officials have stepped up their harassment of religious leaders, political dissidents, and student activists. Yet, the Communist Government of Vietnam claims that they've reformed.
In an effort to skirt the issue of human rights during President Nguyen's visit to Washington, his government freed key political “cyber” dissident Nguyen Vu Binh.
We're not fooled by this window dressing. The recent crackdown on peaceful dissidents and the squashing of human rights has been called the worst in twenty years. We can be thankful for Binh's release, but must not forget the scores of others that remain imprisoned for their belief in democracy and human rights.
I was disappointed by the recent removal of Vietnam from the list of Countries of Particular Concern. Some believe that so-called reforms by the communist government are adequate - they are not. I have written to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice requesting that Vietnam be placed back on that list. Until the government accepts opposition and respects human rights, this is where they deserve to be.
When President Bush meets with President Nguyen, he must publicly press him for human rights reforms which would send an electrifying message to the Communist Government, that future relations with the U.S. will be significantly impacted by Vietnam's treatment of their people. President Bush must not miss this opportunity. There can be no quiet diplomacy.
We have a very important opportunity to send Vietnam a message that their human rights reforms are not adequate. President Nguyen has stressed our "common values" in some of his recent speeches. If President Nguyen wants the Vietnamese-American partnership to flourish, he must embrace freedom, the most sacred value. I told President Nguyen that political and religious persecution is unacceptable.
It is the Vietnamese people, especially those fighting for liberty, who must hear this message. In Congress, I will continue my support of Radio Free Asia, and the Internet Freedom Act, successful legislation that I have carried to spread the word of democracy and freedom in Vietnam, just as Radio Free Europe did to the former Soviet Block. Speaking to the Vietnamese people through these programs, we can facilitate this change.
