LETTER OF COMMUNION
Hanoi 8/31/2008
To: Fr. Matthew Vu Khoi Phung, Superior of Thai Ha monastery, Vicar of Thai Ha parish.
Respected priests, brothers, and parishioners
We - all priests in Hanoi city- are deeply in communion with Thai Ha parish’s legitimate aspiration in asking for their piece of land currently being illegally acquired by Chien- Thang Sewing Company
We are in communion with Thai-Ha parish in petitioning to the government for an adequate resolving of this illegal acquisition on the parish’s property based on legal grounds.
In regard to a series of incidents being occurred in Thai-Ha parish, here are our suggestions to the government:
1. Not to criminalize such dispute of a civil nature. Stop summoning and arresting parishioners
2. Not to politicize such internal dispute between Thai-Ha parish and Chien Thang Company and concerned others.
3. Not to take security measures of violent nature in resolving the parishioners’ legitimate demand.
4. Not to broadcast news that is one-way, distortional, defaming, insulting to the priests, brothers and parishioners when in fact an adjudication from the court has not been existed.
5. Investigate and prosecute those individuals and/or organizations who had savagely assaulted the parishioners while they were praying peacefully whether on the side-walk of Thai Ha streets or outside the Dong Da district’ s police station on the evening of 8/28/2008.
6. Not to terrorize or apply discriminating or prejudice treatment on students or public servants who are Catholic in their schools, public work places and others
In conclusion, we wish you- respected vicar, fellow priests, brothers and our brothers and sisters of Thai Ha- serenity and perservance in your prayer for peace and justice
