Castel Gandolfo, Jul. 25, 2008 (CWNews.com) - Pope Benedict XVI will begin his 2-week summer vacation in the Italian Alps on Monday, July 28.

The Holy Father will travel to northern Italy, to the town of Bressanone, where he will stay in a diocesan seminary. During his stay there he will not hold private audiences.

The Pope has scheduled only a few public appearances during his stay in Bressanone. He will meet with local priests on August 6, and he will lead the Angelus prayer on the two Sundays he spends in the Alpine retreat, on August 3 and 10.

During the first three years of his pontificate, Pope Benedict XVI spent his vacation time at spots favored by his predecessor, Pope John Paul II (bio - news), in Les Combes and Lorenzago di Cadore. This year he has chosen a site that he used for vacations in the past, prior to his election as Roman Pontiff. Father Federico Lombardi, the director of the Vatican press office, pointed out that Bressanone is "associated with many memories of Pope Benedict's life."
