Dear friends of Cardinal Thuan,
This morning 25th August I went to see him first thing in the morning, he was resting well but each day he is getting weaker.
I told him of the love and prayers coming from all people around the World and he was very grateful, he said:'tell them my thanks and please keep praying'. Yesterday afternoon he was tired so we did not have Holy Mass in the room as usual, but we had it downstairs in the Chapel of the hospital. Afterwards the priest brought the Holy Communion to the Cardinal, and the Cardinal asked to have the Annointment of the sick as well; so he reaceived the annointment for the Sick with the presence of his family members, 3 priests and 3 sisters nurses who care for him at the hospital. It was a very emotional and beautiful event. The Card was very serene followed the prayers.. Afterthat we sang in Vietnamese a song of Our Lady 'Lay Me xin An Ui Chung Con'. The card also joined us quietly.
I am sending here some photos so you can see how serene he is in spite of everything.
At present he doesnt have to have any painkiller medecine nor has he undergone any chemotherapy before.
Last night I was with him until 9pm, I noticed he seemed to have some pain I asked: anh co dau khong?- Co dau. Nhieu khong? -Khong Anh chiu duoc. (Are you in pain? yes, A lot of pain? no, I can manage).
Most of the time, he closed his eyes resting, but sometimes he opened his eyes and kept looking at the Cruxifix hanging on the wall opposite his bed. He seemed to say to God: Please let my will be the same with Your Will.
This morning Fr Mais from Mission Etrangere de Paris came to see the Card and told me he also get news from vietcatholic and suggested if I could write in english so many english speaking readers can read too, that is why I am writing in english, and asked fr Nghi to have it translated into Vietnamese too.
We are always very close to each other in this difficult time and God is ever closer to us too. With love.
